Heinz Foodservice consolidation plan could create 80 new jobs at Telford Plant
Around 80 new jobs could be created at Heinz Telford factory as part of a proposed consolidation of the companies European foodservice manufacturing operations.
Heinz wants to close it Turnhout site in Belgium and shift production to Telford. Heinz Foodservice currently employs 118 staff at Telford and 157 at Turnhout.
If implemented, this would be a critical step in Heinz plan to ensure they are operating as efficiently and effectively as possible to become more competitive and to accelerate growth.
The move comes four months after Heinz confirmed it was making almost 250 office staff redundant in the UK & Ireland as part of plans to streamline its business.
On the proposal to shut Turnhout, Heinz said: The proposal has only been reached after thoroughly exploring extensive alternatives. It is not a reflection of the commitment of our employees or the quality of the products they make. It is based primarily on factory location in relation to our customer/consumer base and the need to improve transportation efficiencies and the face we have excess capacity.
